This walk touches on the lives of 20 women who have lived or worked in Westminster, but whose legacy in many cases stretches far beyond the boundaries of the Thames.
WOW! Takes us through the work of wonderful women! In medicine, education, parliamentary reform, housing, child welfare and abolitionism, British women have made their mark. Despite the odds, they have found and maintained a voice in society, bringing about change.
WOW! illustrates what women from Boudicca to Betty Boothroyd have achieved. Follow the footsteps of the suffrage movement, those who inspired the creation of the original 'mums net' and many more. Then enjoy a coffee break in a highly unusual church, built to please Queen Anne, and walk the road of the Suffragettes from their headquarters to Parliament Square, the seat of British power. This walk also includes entry to the little known but fascinating FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE MUSEUM. Though she was born in Italy, and officially the museum is just beyond the boundaries of Westminster, Florence Nightingale is such a significant figure for women, we won't split hairs on geography!
UNLESS OTHERWISE AGREED, THE MEETING POINT FOR THE WALK IS OPPOSITE BIG BEN AT CAFÉ NERO NEXT TO WESTMINSTER UNDERGROUND STATION.
